One aim of the show - with some discrete assistance from modernity - is to help us appreciate and rediscover the existing charm of the locations. Because some of the country houses - the splendid ports-of-call along this itinerary - open in fact their doors to host large pieces of sculpture by contemporary artists. As we climb upstream we find works by the late Vittorio Basaglia at Villa Foscari ('La Malcontenta') and at Villa Widmann; by Mirta Carroli at Villa Ferretti-Angeli; by Cloti Ricciardi at Villa Recanati-Cacco; and by Laura Castagno and Leonardo Mosso at Villa Pisani. These are wide ranging, large-sized installations. Many of them have been conceived expressly for this event, and so have been planned and moulded to suit the architectural and landscaped features of the setting. They'll be emanating their own modern vibes here for two months.
