On occasion of its 75th anniversary, IUAV is promoting an international competition on invitation to create the IUAV Newlogo: the theme of the competition is the design of the new coordinated visual identity of IUAV, including the logo. The current coordinated image of IUAV was established a number of years ago by Massimo Vignelli and implemented by the Rector’s delegates responsible for communications, a position now held by Sergio Polano. The aim of the international visual design competition by invitation for the new logo published by IUAV in 2002, on occasion of its 75th anniversary, is to obtain original new designs for a new IUAV logo, integrated with an original proposal for a coordinated visual identity. Those invited are internationally acclaimed visual designers, with specific experience in the field of design and communication of coordinated visual identities, brands and logos. The subject of the competition is the creation and executive design, with coordinated applications, of the new IUAV logo, to be adopted by IUAV as the characteristic element of their visual identity and institutional communication. The logo to be designed comprises the acronym I.U.A.V. (which stands for Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia), in the expressive forms and design configurations deemed most suitable by the competitors. The logo must also be designed and exemplified by the designers in the widest range of possible applications. In fact in the design materials a coordinated system of the IUAV image is exemplified, of which the new logo is an integral part. The visual identity of IUAV is part of a larger system, with which the institution is identified: its overall means of communication. The visual identity of IUAV currently features a systematic use of a reduced, flexible and easily recognisable range of elements, the guarantee of effective and simple impact and accessibility on all levels.
