The pianist Marco Ponchiroli presents at Frari his last album «Solo», released in 2012 under Caligola Records. He, a really flexible musician with a classica] background, had an important experience in pop music, playing at Sanremo Festival with Pitura Freska of Skardy, and debuted as leader in 1995 with the album «Fast Marghera». He has earned a reputation as accornpanist of singers, among whom the Brazilian Luma and Rosa Emilia, but also Enrica Bacchia, with whom Ponchiroli recorded the valuable «Like You». Moreover the piano–player, born in Venice, collaborated with the saxophonist Gigi Sella, recording with him as a duo «Warm up», but he also played with David Boato, Nicola Fazzini, Bebo Baldan («The Italian Jazz Art»), Roberto Caon and Marco Carlesso ( «Slash Art 3»), Stefano Senni and Enzo Zirilli; with them he has recently started a new trio. Ponchiroli has then decided to tackle what is in a sense the litmus test of ali jazz pianists, the difficult challenge of the solo–piano. Arrivai point, but at the same time point of departure of a new artistic path, long desired and deeply planned, «Solo» is the accurate self–portrait of an artist that here reveals himself as much more complex and full of facets than what may appear at first sight.
