Talking about fashion, driven by personal curiosity, seeking other terms and new languages. This is the beginning of a new phase for Spazio Punch - grown from an exchange of ideas with Maria Luisa Frisa, Director of the Fashion Design Degree Course, IUAV Venice - beside
all the research on publishing and the interdisciplinary projects that have been carried out so far. The perspective is open and is translated into exhibitions, round table talks, proposals for collections.
The first appointment, MODA The designer’s view, draws upon the publishing of La moda nei discorsi dei designer (Clueb 2012) by Alessandra Vaccari, researcher and lecturer of History and Theory of Fashion University IUAV, Venice. From this work, the author creates an exhibition that collects documents and sources that she investigates. The book, focused on the word, turns into a pop-up, and so it reveals imaginaries and visions, connecting historical periods, movements and cultural revolutions. During the opening, Alessandra Vaccari and Spazio Punch have the pleasure to introduce Alessio Ascari, Enrico Bettinello and Maria Luisa Frisa, who will have their say on the show from the perspective of three different disciplines. The discourse expands and thickens; both book and exhibition project take the challenge.
he concept of fashion designer was born in the mid-nineteenth century within Western fashion, as its own legendary representation. In spite of the special attention given to this role by the media, or perhaps even due to this resonance, what fashion designers have said, told and written have so far aroused only a little interest from fashion studies. By drawing on a reflection on the materials that fashion designers make or curate as part of their creative and professional activity, their perspective proves to be very useful to understand design processes, working methods and identity of fashion in itself. Through a display of autobiographical books, magazines, conference papers and films, this exhibition is a tridimensional reconstruction of the designers’ words.
