ThisAge

Discomfort and loss of a society in a constant chance whereof we can not always capture the true connotation. This is the theme explored by the students of the 19th Course in Curatorial Practices and Contemporary Art in a group exhibition that will open to the public on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 18 at A plus A Slovene Exhibition Centre in Venice. Through photographs, videos, installations, sound art interventions and interactive works, ThisAge attempts to express the discomfort of an era of economic uncertainty, wars and a rapidly changing society that inevitably affects our daily lives. A situation that becomes explicit in the work of the numerous artists who responded with a reflection on the ruthless and cruel reality that is often hostile. Through ThisAge young curators and young artists express with a choral orchestration an intuition that they want to share with the visitor, in order to raise consciousness and give a real voice to a latent malaise inherent in today’s society. Twenty-six young curators from different backgrounds and training, some at their first real test of curating, have attended a course organized by XAC, a groundbreaking school created to give continuity to the teaching activities of A plus A, working closely with the artists at the exhibition that will develop through the gallery space and the adjacent Palazzo Malipiero. Thirteen artists: Pietro Mingotti, Valentina Sanna, Enzo Comin, and Simon Perathoner from the Venice Fine Arts Academy and Bevilacqua la Masa Foundation, Andrea Santini from Vicenza, the videomaker Mauro Lovisetto from Treviso, the collective NASTYNASTY from Ravenna, Claudia Moretti from Mantova, the sculptur Giovanni Manfredini from Modena, Lorenzo Ghelardini from Tuscany and the artists Natasa Radovic, Monica Grycko and Gaston Ramirez Feltrin from Croazia, Poland and Mexico. On the occasion of the opening, on January 14 at 18, the guest of honour will be the musician and composer Xabier Iriondo, guitarist of Afterhours, the Italian indie rock band founded in 1986, engaged in a live performance entitled Der Cavalinha together with the Sicilian artist Valentina Chiappini. In the late evening Alberto Pasini will warm up the atmosphere with his DJ set. At the finissage on January 21 at 18 there will be Pierpaolo Capovilla, leader of Teatro degli Orrori, one of the leading Italian alternative-rock band . His reading, inspired by the theme of disaster, will be accompanied by Venetian musician and composer Paki Zennaro.
